RIODEJANEIRO,Dec11-AmanarrestedbypoliceinRiodeJaneiroonsuspicionofmurderhasconfessedtokilling42peopleoverthepastdecade,makinghimpotentiallyoneofthecountry'smostprolificserialkillers.
SailsonJosedasGraas,26,whowasarrestedonWednesday,toldreportersatapolicestationinthestateofRiothathekilledforpleasureandtheaccompanyingadrenalinerush.Hesaidhealsooperatedasakillerforhire.
Hesaidhispreferredvictimswerewhitefemales,whomhestrangled.Amongthe42victims,39arethoughttobewomen.
Thenewscomesjustmonthsafterasecurityguardconfessedtokilling39people,mostlyhomelesspeopleandtransvestites,intheBraziliancityofGoiania.
"Iwouldwaitforanopportunitytobreakintothehouseandkill,"DasGraastoldreporters,addinghewouldoftenwatchhisvictimsformonthsbeforemakinghismove.
"WhenIdidn'tdoitIwouldgetnervous,thenIwouldgohunting"forothervictims,headded.PolicemadeDasGraasavailableforreporterstoquestioninagive-and-takesessionthat'snotuncommoninBrazil.
DasGraassaidhewouldoftenremovethenailsofhisvictimstoavoidmarksorscratchesfromascuffle.Hesaidhiswifewasawareofthemurders.
Hebeganalifeofcrimeattheageof15snatchinghandbags.At17heallegedlykilledhisfirstvictim.
ExpertssaidDasGraaswaslikelyapsychopathwhoenjoyedthemediaspotlightandwarnedthatwhathesaidshouldbecarefullychecked.
Butpolicesaidtheywereconvincedbyhisaccountandwerecrossreferencinghisconfessionswithpastcrimereports.Fourcrimeshadalreadysuccessfullybeenmatched,theysaid.
